Classification of Paving Blocks

The classification of paving blocks is based on shape, thickness,
Strength and color are as follows:

a. Classification Based on Shape
As for the various forms of paving blocks that are produced,
but taken in outline form of paving block can be
divided into two, namely:
1. Paving blocks in rectangular shape
2. Paving blocks of other shapes.

In terms of the use of the form of the paving block itself, you can
adapted to your needs. Good for construction purposes
paving on roads with moderate to heavy traffic
(eg: highways, industrial areas, other public roads),
therefore in the use of more rectangular paving blocks
suitable for use

(Kuipers. 1984) in his research concluded that
the use of rectangular shapes for medium and heavy traffic
more suitable due to its constant and easy locking properties
gouged out if at any time to be repaired. For
light construction purposes (e.g. sidewalks, plazas, parking lots,
neighborhood roads) can use quadrilaterals

b. Classification Based on Thickness

Paving blocks that are generally produced have a thickness
60mm, 80mm and 100mm. in its use, the thickness of each paving block can be adjusted accordingly
needs as follows:

1. Paving blocks with a thickness of 60 mm, intended for
light traffic load and pedestrians.

2. Paving blocks with a thickness of 80 mm, intended for
moderate traffic load whose frequency is limited to the pick
ups, trucks, and buses.

3. Paving blocks with a thickness of 100 mm, intended for
heavy traffic loads include the following: cranes, loaders, and heavy equipment
other. Paving blocks with a thickness of 100 mm are common
used in industrial areas and ports.

From the classification of paving blocks above, not based on dimensions,
considering the many variations in the form of paving blocks. Dimensions
paving blocks for rectangular shapes ranging from 105 mm x
210mm. (Hackel. 1980) in his related research
with paving block dimensions not too influential on
appearance as a pavement for the benefit of traffic.

c. Classification Based on Strength

This paving block has a strength ranging from 250 kg/cm2
up to 450 kg/cm2 depending on the use of pavement layers.
In general, paving blocks that have been produced a lot
has a characteristic compressive strength between 300 kg/cm2
up to you 450kg/cm2

d. Classification Based on Color

Apart from the various shapes, paving blocks also have different colors.
which can reveal beauty is also used as
barrier such as in a parking lot. Existing paving block colors
on the market are red, black, green and gray.
